Premature ejaculation(PE) is a situation in which uncontrolled ejaculation occurs either before or shortly after the sexual intercourse. It happens with minimal sexual stimulation and before the body satisfaction. It can result in unsatisfactory sex for both partners. This condition adds to the anxiety that may increase the problem.

Premature ejaculation(PE) is a common sexual issue. There are reports that show that 1 out of 3 men experiences this issue. Statistics show that 80% males account for this situation. Premature ejaculation indicates an occurrence rate of between 27 percent and 34 percent in men of all ages. Premature ejaculation can cause marked distress and interpersonal issues in men and their partners as it never allows both to enjoy sex in a pleasing manner. Both feels dissatisfaction as there is the inability to hold the enjoyable sensation for a man to the longer period while the other partner feels dissatisfied for not being able to achieve her sexual peak.


Causes of Premature Ejaculation (PE)

Actual root causes of premature ejaculation are unknown. There are some beliefs that it occurs due to some kinds of psychological or biological factors in males. However, there are indications that premature ejaculation is much more complicated and involve an interaction of biological and psychological factors.


Psychological Causes

Some of the psychological causes of premature ejaculation include:

•    Early Sexual Experiences

•    Anxiety and Stress

•    Erectile Dysfunction Fears


Biological Causes

Some biological factors that may contribute to premature ejaculation are

•    Abnormal hormone levels

•    Insufficient concentration of the neurotransmitter serotonin

•    Abnormal reflex activity of the ejaculatory system

•    Certain thyroid problems

•    Inflammation and infection of the prostate or urethra

•    Inherited traits


Treatment Of Premature Ejaculation

Despite the fact that premature ejaculation is taken a clinical diagnosis, it still cannot be classified as a disease or an illness.

 Whether the cause is psychological or biological, treatment for premature ejaculation is available that includes behavioral therapy, psychological counseling, and medications. The combination of these methods can also be used to treat premature ejaculation.


Behavioral Therapy

Behavioral therapy is beneficial as it helps about 60% to 90% of men with premature ejaculation. Broadly speaking, practice and relaxation help in dealing with the issue. It consists of following techniques:

  • The Squeeze Technique
  • The Stop and Start Method



There are two categories of drugs that can be employed in the treatment of premature ejaculation. These are the use of:

•    Certain Antidepressants

•    Topical Anesthetic Creams

There are also available creams, gels, and spray forms of medications that are used to treat premature ejaculation by reducing penis sensation. Such gels/creams are applied to the penis before sex. They include Lidocaine and Lidocaine/Prilocaine etc.
